  • Treatment of Gum Disease and Halitosis

Periodontal disease is an infection of the gums that is usually painless. It can go unnoticed, making regular dental checkups very important. Periodontal disease can cause serious deterioration in healthy gums, leading to loss of bone mass and the structure that holds teeth in place. Many adults lose teeth not to decay, but to periodontal disease.

Periodontal disease can also cause halitosis (bad breath), which can be a handicap in the business and social world. Moreover, many people don’t realize that periodontal disease may be associated with premature births and birth defects as well as increased risk of heart disease, diabetes and respiratory disease.

Gonzalez Dental Care staff is committed to your complete dental health. Every patient is assessed for periodontal health at the outset of treatment, including a full assessment of the bone around the teeth, the presence of any gum pockets and your risk factors for periodontal disease.

Based on the findings of the periodontal assessment, you will be explained about needed treatment and scheduled accordingly. The actual time period between cleaning/assessment visits is determined by the health of your gums and bone. If you are striving to achieve and maintain good dental health, the interval may be shorter. Conversely, if you have a long history of good dental health, the interval between visits would be longer.

The doctors take a conservative, non-surgical approach to periodontal disease. If you have gingivitis or periodontal disease, we will first try to treat it with deep cleaning — root planing and scaling, with local anesthesia — and antimicrobial therapies. As always, Dr. Gonzalez and her team use the latest techniques and equipment to ensure your comfort during these important procedures.

  • Root Canal Therapy

In the roots of a tooth are small canals which contain the dental pulp, which sometimes becomes infected and inflamed. This infection is usually due to tooth decay or tooth fractures that give bacteria and other microorganisms access to the pulp of the root canals. In these cases, the infected tissue must be removed by a procedure known as endodontics therapy, commonly called a root canal, or the patient could lose the tooth. However, when a patient is able to get the root canal procedure, this usually stabilizes the tooth and can be crowned, saving the tooth.

Root canal is a term that produces fear in many people. Through sensitive administration of anesthetics and skill, at Gonzalez Dental Care, we are committed to making root canals completely painless during and after the procedure.

  • Bonding and Tooth Colored Fillings

For small to medium cavities, we can directly place a resin (bonded) filling, which can be completed in one visit, to seal off cavities, protect the nerves of your teeth, and strengthen the remaining tooth structure.

We recommend bonding rather than unsightly metallic fillings, because it restores your teeth to their natural appearance, as well as strengthening the tooth.

When a tooth is weakened by decay and fillings and the remaining tooth structure is prone to fracturing, we bond porcelain inlays/onlays into the tooth.

  • Dentures

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. While an excellent solution for some patients who have lost teeth, ill-fitting dentures can result in sore spots in the mouth, dietary problems caused by the inability to chew food properly, a loss of enjoyment in eating and even changes in facial features.

At Gonzalez Dental Care, we have the skills, aesthetic expertise, and technological know-how to ensure that your new dentures are fitted for optimum functionality and appearance.

  • Dental Implants

Dental implants are titanium cylinders placed in the jawbone where original teeth are missing. These root-like cylinders are used to secure the replacement teeth in the jawbone and are as close as possible to having your natural teeth.
When your natural teeth are missing, many problems can occur. The remaining teeth can shift or rotate causing an improper bite. Spaces and gaps may cause embarrassment, problems with speech or difficulty chewing. People who have dental implants report better ability to chew food and eat properly, renewed confidence while speaking, and higher self-esteem.

Dental implants can be used to replace a single tooth, avoiding the need to alter or grind down adjacent teeth to anchor a permanent dental bridge. If multiple teeth are missing and sufficient bone exists, a permanent dental bridge can be built on multiple implants, again avoiding the involvement of the remaining natural teeth.

Dental implants can also provide stability for complete or partial dentures, eliminating the uncomfortable moving and clicking often associated with dentures.

Oral Surgery

  • Extractions and Oral Surgery

At Gonzalez Dental Care we provide a wide range of services because we seek to give our clients optimal, comprehensive care. We realize the results of one procedure can affect the success of subsequent procedures. Sometimes, when a tooth has advanced tooth decay, a large infection, advanced periodontal disease, or the tooth is broken, the only solution is to remove the tooth. After an evaluation, we are able to determine if the tooth removal can be done at this location. This enables our patients to have extractions and oral surgery in the same relaxed, supportive environment that they enjoy.
